My musical escapades….

And we continue… November 17, 2008

Ok, just to clear up a few confusions.  I am not going to post anything, unless I have something of significant value.  Good, now that this little discrepancy has been cleared up, we shall continue.

Today I had a lesson with Judy Lapple, and it is wonderful.  It is a really nice feeling to take lessons from someone other than your PMIprofessor.  It really gives you a different perspective on playing, it is like going to a different doctor for a second opinion.  Judy always makes me feel really good about my playing, but also offers great advice (even though she is a flutist) and suggestions.  I think that I may take a few lessons with my future father in-law.  Talk about putting things in perspective….I’m not going to lie, I do crave the criticism that I get from the Behrend family though…

Ok, so this week is going to be rough with VMEA and all.  Don’t get me wrong, I am excited that our school gets to go to VMEA for the second year in a row, but could it be at a worse time?  I am so stressed about the whole Bobby-USNB audition thing, with him coming home (Finally!), tests and classes, and trying to do lessons, I just like don’t have the time to worry about VMEA.  Before Wednesday I have to make a ton of playable reeds (because I am hoping one of them can handle the climate change), get my new pants hemmed (because I am only 5 foot 3…), study for a theory test, make up my keyboard work, and do TWO projects for ATM…GUFF!

On a lighter note, this is a banana that I found at Southside today:

I gave in…. November 9, 2008

I know, I know….I have been knocking blogs since they became the “it” thing to do in the P.A.B.  What can I say?  I gave into the craze!  I apologize to everyone I made fun of.

So this has been a pretty uneventful weekend.  Highlight of this weekend was definately getting MY VERY FIRST issue of The Double Reed, a magazine that the IDRS puts out a few times a year.  For those of you who are wondering what the hell the IDRS is…it stands for the International Double Reed Society.  I was quite excited that I finally got it!

My first Issue!

My first Issue!

So along with my first issue of The Double Reed came a form for the Young Artist Bassoon Competition.  This is a competition that the IDRS runs for the IDRS conference (Winner plays at the conference), and it rotates between Oboe/Bassoon.  This years competiton is obviously for bassoon…and I think I’m going to send in my tape.  For the tape it is required that you play Vivaldi-Concerto in a, Devienne-Sonata in g, Hindemith-Sonate for Bassoon and Piano, and the Saint-Saens- Sonate for Bassoon and Piano.  I don’t think I will have any problems since I would only have to learn two more pieces…the Devienne and the Vivaldi.

So yeah, this was the only high point of my weekend…that and the 5 hour laundryfest I had today.
